Responsible for assisting the Plant Manager in providing a clean, safe, organized work environment that promotes efficient operations. Emphasis on mill support as it relates to quality improvement and paper machine performance. Help ensure the mill produces quality specialty paper products that meet Burrows customer expectations in a timely manner.
Job Duties and Responsibilities

- Meet or exceed production, cost, and machine efficiency goals.
- Assist in the training and development of machine operators.
- Create and encourage an environment that supports process optimization.
- Support trials for new product development.
- In concert with the Plant Manager, efficiently manage your workforce, scheduling, over-time, contract administration and disciplinary procedures.
- Manage the well being of your employees including tracking vacation time and absenteeism with Admin Assistant.
- Work with the Admin Assistant to communicate with HR and Payroll to provide them the information they need to provide your employees with accurate pay and benefits. Maintain systems at your facility to track payroll, timecards, time sheets and ensure their accuracy.
- Optimize chemical usage.
- Meet or exceed quality targets.
- Maintain appropriate paper product properties and papermaking variables (i.e., fiber source, machine settings, chemical interactions, etc.).
- Ensure safe operations, post OSHA report, develop corrective action plans to prevent future incidents, and report these to the Plant Manager, Manufacturing Manager and Safety Manager.
- Monitor facility wastewater discharge to ensure that all potential environmental issues are reported. Ensure that the facility remains within the environmental permit limits.
- Aggressively and proactively interact with the Sales and Technical Departments to address and improve customer service.
- Communicate, administer, and support company policies and procedures.
- Supervise the paper mill at least every 3rd week and weekend. Coordinate this schedule with the Plant Manager. Coordinate your facility’s response to call-ins.
- Assist the mill manager with implementing capital projects including follow up with ROI or justifications.
Qualifications and Experience
- Technical degree desired, degree in paper science, chemistry, engineering or equivalent experience.
- Must be able to respond to call-ins in a timely manner.
- Excellent motivation and communication skills.
- Knowledge of computer systems and willingness to take further training as necessary.
- General knowledge of maintenance technologies.
- Commitment to safety and quality.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
